As HTPC concept becomes more and more popular, a lot of people ask me about the software I use. Well, for the last 8 months I've been using MediaPortal and I don't think it's gonna change in the near future.
Somehow it is the only software that answers to all my needs. And although I'm a linux enthusiast and would very much like to build a linux media center, I can tell you that the only real solution to HTPC is MediaPortal.
What does it have that linux solutions don't? First and very important(to me that is): tv series plugin - organize, tag, attach banners and info - nobody does it better than MediaPortal. Moreover, nobody does it at all. Not mythtv, not linuxmce(which actually uses the mythtv for the media organization), not even the new and hot Elisa (I believe I'll dedicate a topic to it when they finally have the amd-64 repository). And for me, if it doesn't have this feature - it's not worth trying. The solution most of them talk about regarding this issue is to organize the files within folders - sorry, I don't think it's serious. Until then, this is the only recomendation I can give you. |
