Hauppauge 45/34-Button Remotes

General Information

MediaPortal supports the 45- and 34-button version of the Hauppauge remotes out of the box. Just download and install the latest drivers for your Hauppauge card. Don't leave out the remote control part (IR32.exe), otherwise the needed driver DLL won't be installed and your remote won't work with MediaPortal.

Configuration Settings

In MediaPortal's external configuration application (section Remote/Hauppauge tab) you can find the following settings to adjust the behaviour of your Hauppauge remote control:

General

* Use Hauppage remote
* Enables or disables Hauppauge remote control support
* Mapping
* Opens the Input Mapping Editor. Here you can adjust your button mappings to fit your own needs and reset to default mappings if necessary or after a MediaPortal update.

Settings

* External processes may use the remote control
* MediaPortal releases the Hauppauge remote as soon as it loses focus or an external process is being started (e.g. external players or a process started via My Programs), so you can use other applications with your remote control.
* Keep control when MP loses focus
* MediaPortal releases control of the Hauppauge remote only, if an external process has been started (if the above option is checked), but not if it simply loses focus.
* Filter doubleclicks
* Blocks repetition for the buttons: OK, Pause, Red, Green, Blue, Yellow, Menu, Mute and Pause buttons.
* Extended logging
* Produces a more verbose log, only needed for debugging.

Repeat Delay

* Button release
* This is the time a key has to be released before it is pressed again in order to handle scroll speed correctly.
* If set too low, the repeat speed and repeat filter settings won't work, and you might experience unintended doubleclicks.
* You should test this value by scrolling the main menu in MediaPortal. Keep "cursor down" pushed for a few seconds until the menu starts scrolling fast. Then release the button, and press it again shortly after.
* If you feel that the menu in MediaPortal keeps scrolling too fast when pushing "cursor down" for the second time, you should decrease the value.
* If you feel that the menu is a bit unresponsive, try increasing the release time.
* As a rule of thumb, you should set this value as high as possible, then decrease it until it fits your needs.
* Different remotes and systems behave differently, so it looks like we can't supply the perfect timeout settings for all users. A good default setting is 500ms.
* Repeat filter
* This sets the time before a key is repeated if it is held pressed down. Increase the value if you experience unintended doubleclicks. Decrease if you want better scrolling/repeating response.
* Repeat speed
* Sets the speed for button repetition when keeping it pushed continuously.

Status

* Whenever there is a problem with the remote control driver, MediaPortal will tell you so and suggests a solution here.

Default Button Mapping

(!) If some of the below mappings are not working for you, you should reset your mappings in the ?Input Mapping Editor to default and remove any user defined mappings this way. If it's still not working as expected, you should try a later SVN build, chances are that some functions/mappings did not exist in the MediaPortal version you are using.

X10 Remotes

General Information

MediaPortal supports different appearings of X10 remotes. One type is very popular in Germany as it's distributed by Medion with the famous "ALDI-PC". Also ATI uses the X10 hardware for their AIW remotes. The Mapping could slightly differ from type to type.

{i} ATI users take note: please disable all ATI software before using your ATI X10 remote with MP. This is because the ATI software will catch some events like volume handling which can't be done by MP then or will be executed two times.

Driver

You can try to work with your currently installed driver, but if the remote doesn't work as exspected in ANY way please try installing the driver mentioned in the configuration page first. This driver should definately work!

About RF channel control

As the X10 remotes use RF technology their operating range is a lot higher than with infrared remotes. So if you want to use more than one remote in a certain area it is usefull to allow MP be only controlled by remotes sending their data on a certain channel only. This way you can be sure that MP is only controlled by the right remote.
